Recyclable Epoxy Resin via Simultaneous Dual Permanent/Reversible Crosslinking Based on Diels–Alder Chemistry

Abstract Taking advantage of the reversible Diels–Alder (DA) reaction, a simple strategy to obtain recyclable epoxy resins is presented. For this purpose, blends furan‐functionalized and nonfunctionalized resin are prepared. After addition diamine bismaleimide, heated at 150 °C for 5 min, where permanent amine/epoxy reaction has taken place upon cooling room temperature DA happened, giving rise dual permanent/nonpermanent network. Both reactions confirmed by Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) 13 C‐crosspolarization, magic‐angle spinning (CP/MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC) shows that epoxy/amine bismaleimide/amine curing take place, after simultaneously with retroDA before bismaleimide homopolymerization. Therefore, under appropriate conditions, Michael's homopolymerization do not avoid formation hybrid network, as stated in other reports. The reversibility three consecutive cycles DSC.
